A Tourist's guide to Abuja, Capital City of Nigeria

If you’re a tourist on first time visit to Abuja you’ll need to know a few things about the capital city. This brief article is a guide on a few things a first time visitor to Nigeria’s capital city – Abuja – should know about.

Abuja City – an Overview
Abuja is located in the center of Nigeria within a region known as the Federal Capital Territory which is governed by an agency called the Federal Capital Territory Administration and ministry of FCT. It is Nigeria’s fourth largest city by population and the fastest growing in Nigeria with an estimated 2 million residents who reside mostly on the outskirts in satellite towns and villages and an additional 900,000 who reside in the main districts of Abuja.

What you’ll notice for the first time
As you drive into the city from the airport you’ll notice that Abuja has lush green vegetation and very wide smooth roads – that’s mostly on the strategic parts of the city – the case is slightly different as you drift further away from the city center. The weather is hot most times above 30 degrees Celcius and rains which aren’t very heavy come around April till late October or early November. Much of the city is dusty especially around areas with large number of untarred roads, there are few shanties within the city as most houses are constructed within planned estates and districts. Transportation into the city center is mostly by high capacity buses, taxis and tricycles called ‘keke Napep’. The city becomes quieter during the weekends as most people who work in the city reside on the outskirts or in Satellite towns.

History of Abuja
As far back as 1976, Abuja was named capital of Nigeria by a decree under the military junta led by Murtala Muhammed but officially became the Capital city on December 12, 1991 when the abode of power was transferred from Lagos to Abuja and has remained so ever since. Abuja was chosen for being a neutral location just between Muslim dominated Northern Nigeria and Christian dominated South unlike Lagos which was in South Western Nigeria in a region dominated by Christians and the Yoruba ethnic group.

Districts and Satellite Towns in Abuja
The main districts in Abuja are those captured in the Abuja master plan and they include but are not limited to the City Center (Maitama, Maitama Extension, Asokoro, Wuse/Wuse 2, Guzape, Garki/Garki 2 and Central Business District), districts on the outskirts like (Wuye, Gwarimpa, Life Camp, Karu, Mpape, Jahi, Utako, Jabi among others) and Satellite towns like Lugbe, Kubwa, Jikwoyi, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Nyanya etc.

City Administration
At the highest level Abuja is managed and governed by the FCTA which oversees infrastructural development and enforcement of the Abuja city planning laws. It is led by the Minister of the FCT. The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) oversees rural development. There are environmental laws which should not be violated else one could attract the wrath of Abuja environmental protection board (AEPB).

Most big businesses in Abuja are either government agencies or private companies that rely heavily on government patronage. But there are a few others that are thriving but mostly in the hospitality sector – hotels, restaurants, lounges and real estate and so on. Trading is a very common business in Abuja as you’ll find lots of shops in shopping plazas and markets within the city in place of service oriented businesses which are few.

Social life in Abuja is very rife in the evenings on week days and on weekends and public holidays. Most places patronized during this time are lounges, fast food restaurants, hotels, parks where many Abuja social events are held.

Popular Landmarks in Abuja
Some very popular landmarks in Abuja include; Millennium park, Abuja Children’s Zoo, Wonderland Amusement Park, River Plate Park, City Park, Shoprite in Apo, National Stadium, Maitama Amusement Park, National Mosque, National Ecumenical center, Silverbird Entertainment Center to name a few.

Places to Visit in Abuja
As a visitor or guest we can recommend the following places for movies; Silverbird Entertainment Center and Ceddi Plaza, for picnics try Millennium Park and River Plate Park, for exclusive social hang outs; Juice Place 2 and 805 Restaurant for great Asian Cuisine; Woks and Koi, Grills in and Out, for excellent outdoor meals Food City, Quarter Café. For first class spa treatment – The Nail Bar.

Crime Situation in Abuja
Crime rate is relatively low in Abuja compared to many Cities in Nigeria but you have to watch out for a few common crimes like commuter taxi robberies known locally as ‘one chance’. Also car theft is common especially at nights in secluded areas of the city at gun point or in the main city at busy parks and market areas where cars are stealthily removed by expert car thieves. Be vigilant.

Abuja is largely a peaceful city with many well behaved residents but on week days during rush

Abuja Cakes: Where to get really tasty cakes

At any given time there’s a party or event holding somewhere in Abuja that would require people being served deliciously made cakes whether it’s cupcakes or just regular whole cakes no one really appreciates a cake that tastes like pie or is as tough as buns.

A cake with a soothing feel and appealing taste is not one to forget in a hurry and ask me why because of all things at an event they seem to be what most people won’t forget in a while at least whenever they run into that person that hosted them to that treat.

But not all cakes are made with the satisfaction of the customer at heart. This is especially true of many confectionery and pastry shops in Abuja that consider profit making more important that customer satisfaction. Well a few exceptions exist such as Cupcake Cutie that bake really good cakes.

Popular Cakes in Abuja
Some popular Abuja cakes you’ll likely find include;

These are Cakes made for almost any occasion except weddings of course. Ideally they make for an excellent after meal snack/dessert or even as an appetizer served to guests.

Birthday Cakes
Birthday cakes as a surprise package can make a very powerful statement for our friends and loved ones at their birthday celebrations what better way to share special moments with them than ordering the right cake for their occasion.

Wedding Cakes
We all know weddings happen all the time and one of the high pointsof a wedding is when the couple along with their supporters step forward to cut the cake. Wedding cakes unlike other cakes must be baked to perfection as the occasion demands nothing but the best.

Custom Made Cakes
It really can be an exciting moment for friends or colleagues to receive specially made cakes in designs they’ll love. For instance if your friend is an Arsenal Fan it may not be a bad idea to get him a cake designed in Arsenal Jersey nor would it be a bad idea to get your pastor a cake in bible make. How about making your kids favorite cartoon character cake? All these are specially made custom cakes which you can place your orders for.

Tips on how to find great cakes in Abuja
Now you’re ready to place an order for a cake, what should you do or look out for?

Is the Cake well Made?
What’s the point in ordering for a disappointingly tasteless cake with poor ingredients? Will the cake maker offer you value for money or just add excess sweetening to your cake. Will the cake be made with health concerns for the end user?

How Much is the Cake?
A good cake should at the very least be affordable even if not cheap. If you’re a typical rational consumer you’ll agree that an expensive cake is not worth having.

Can the Cake be made according to your specifications?
When eventually you order for your cake will you feel satisfied with what you got or would it be the case of I’ll make do with whatever comes my way?

These and other questions are adequately answered by one of Abuja’s finest cake makers Cupcake Cutie you’ll find them at 20, Thaba Tseka Street near Peniel Apartments Wuse 2 in Abuja: 080 6666 2262 or 0807 087 8880 to order for your cakes.

Wher to get Tasty Chicken, Fish Grills, Chips and Pool Party Supplies in Abuja

When out at parties in Abuja we’d love to have very tasty grills - especially spicy chicken - made to our tastes. That explains why some people wouldn’t mind driving far into town to buy Chicken Suya or Chicken Sharwarma to serve their guests with if for anything at least the thrill of being a good host.

But you don’t have to travel far to get served very tasty grills when you can simply place a call through to a company that will show up at your party to make whatever grills you want or if you prefer delivery, it will arrive at your doorstep.

That company is UG grill a leading food brand serving some of Abuja’s best made grills in African style. They’re a team of young, vibrant and very trendy professionals who after gaining acclaim from family and friends about the excellent touch they put into making fantastic grills came together to start a business that has since gone places gaining even more recognition from far and wide within Abuja.

“We noticed that people always wanted us to prepare their grills for them and seized the opportunity when they urged us to start a business out of it” So says Oluchi Oji popularly called Lulu, the manager of this fast rising grill spot.

At various business fairs such as the Designer’s Market Place and lately Fusion Lifestyle Ug grill has made a very strong showing that has attracted friends and fans alike.

As Lulu puts it “people invite us to add colour to their events” they don’t just supply you grills but keep you entertained with cool music and Jovial staffers that keep both belly and heart in shape.

If you’re having a social event such as a pool party with a minimum of 30 guests wouldn’t it make sense to treat them to some Nkwobi or Asun? The ones the guests would delight in often turns out to be small chops; peppered gizzard and snails, grilled chicken or fish with chips, Nkwobi and the new one – Boli which is roasted plantain. These are some of the interesting meal additions you get when you have UG grill serve you some of their very excellent grills and you can have them delivered in style.

Lulu has another surprise for all Abuja foodies “palm wine”. The freshest and very best in all of Abuja if you doubt it ask for your money back anytime you’re served but the long list of DMP fans who showered accolades on them for bringing “Palmie” to Abuja know better.

In addition to all these is the highly unique peppered gizzard and tasty Boli which you’ll not easily find another of their kind in Abuja. Lulu puts it this way “some people say you haven’t tasted good coffee till you try Starbucks coffee, you haven’t tasted well made peppered gizzard or Boli in Abuja if it isn’t from UG grill”.

That must explain why at the October Edition of DMP UG grill ran out of gizzard and plantain shortly after opening for the day. The mad rush indicating how many other people missed out on a uniquely tasty experience.

It all started in April 2013 and the dream is gathering steam, providing only excellently made grills that suit your occasions and Events. UG grill is just a phone call away.

Hire a reliable Abuja Real Estate Agent to rent an apartment or buy a property

When you want to rent an Abuja apartment or in search of an Abuja property to buy whether it’s undeveloped land or a house (block of flats, duplex, bungalow) the natural thing is to go online in search of these properties.

Unfortunately this process is pain staking and eventually you’ll find that you need to consult an Abuja real estate agent to help you search for your desired property of apartment.

Benefits of using a reliable Abuja real estate Agent
It really makes sense to contact an Abuja real estate agent while searching for an Abuja apartment or property and here are some reasons;

Save yourself valuable Time
Why spend so much time running about looking for your preferred apartment especially if you work when you can simply schedule an inspection for a list of available Abuja apartments for rent or property to buy. Let the agents run around for you and only show up for inspection.

Save Money
Why spend money on often fruitless trips that could yield you only stress and frustration plus money lost in transporting yourself when an agent already has a list of apartments from a pool to pick from. You just state your preferred location, schedule an appointment for inspection and just drive to pre-determined destinations.

More Options to pick from
The Abuja estate agents usually have many apartments to suit your needs from a pool they can access from their network of other agents. So instead of working with just what you can find, you have the option of seeing as many as the Abuja real estate market can offer.

Steps to Hiring a reliable Abuja Real Estate Agent
The process is simple and it starts with;

Contacting the Abuja real estate agent
Once you have the contact information of an Abuja real estate agent your job becomes easier. Simply give him/her a call.

State your Location and requirements
After contacting him/her state your preferred location, your requirements e.g tarred roads, within the city, running water, adequate parking space etc. Your requirements should also include information such as the kind of apartment (self contained, 2/3 bedroom flat, duplex etc).

State your budget
How much is your maximum amount you’re willing to pay for your preferred apartment. The closer your location is to the city center, the higher your budget should be. Apartments within the city start at N450,000 per annum for self contained but could drop to N250,000 on the outskirts depending on how close or otherwise they are to Abuja city center.

Schedule an appointment
Once your requirements and budget can be matched to available apartments, then it’s time to schedule an appointment for inspection. The inspection might involve shuttling between different parts of town and is at the expense of the home seeker.

Pick your preferred option
After seeing and inspecting all your options, it’s decision time. Which one meets your requirement at the best price you’re willing to pay? Once you know, call the real estate agent to inform him/her of your choice and readiness to make payment. Then a deed/offer letter would be drawn with stated terms and conditions from the lawyers handling/managing the property.

Make payment
Once payment is made, you’ll be issued a receipt and handed keys to your apartment. You can now move into your preferred apartment or property with the satisfaction of having saved yourself needless stress and wasted money.

What you should know when hiring an Abuja real estate agent

Keep these at the back of your mind when searching for an Abuja real estate agent;

Transportation Costs
You are responsible for transporting the Agent from wherever you meet to all the places he/she would take you for inspection. That means if you have a car, you’ll drive him/her around in it or hire a taxi that would convey you to all your destinations.

Agency fees and other charges
Sometimes the rent cost is net that is excluding agency and service charge (in case of serviced apartments). The agency fee varies from 5 to 10% depending on who is managing the property but there’s a legal fee of 5%.

To hire an Abuja real estate agent that can hook you up with your preferred apartment or property at the best available price simply call 0818 083 1826

5 Productive things to do with Kids in Abuja

As parents we realize that in order to give our kids the best life has to offer, we not only provide for their needs but ensure that they’re happy while providing for them. We want our kids to grow and become healthy adults by encouraging them to do things that would enhance their physical, emotional, mental and social development. The saying all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy also has its rival saying “too much play isn’t good for kids” hence why they’ll need to be productively engaged in Abuja. Here in Abuja we’re recommending these 5 productive things for parents and guardians to do with kids in Abuja;

Sign them up for Summer Camps
Although these only come in handy during the long vacation around June/July every year they should feature prominently on your list of productive things to do with kids in Abuja. If Summer Vacation to Disney land or other child fantasy destinations is too expensive, then local Summer Camps make a suitable alternative. Here in Abuja a few summer camps provide kids with a stimulating environment where they can imbibe many skills and experiences that will be useful to them in future. For instance; spelling B competitions, excursions, Chess tournaments, quiz, bead making, talent shows etc are examples of activities kids could experience at summer camps. The fees could range from N15,000 to over N50,000 depending on duration, content and location of the camp. The French Cultural Center in Wuse 2 is organizes a yearly Summer Camp for kids in Abuja.

Register them for Private Chess Lessons
Chess is a highly stimulating game that enhances the mental abilities of children. Children who learn to play chess at an early age usually develop higher intelligence quotient, improved retentive memory, critical thinking, better decision making and planning/strategic thinking skills. You can sign your kids up for private chess lessons in Abuja with an experienced Chess instructor.

Register them for Foreign Language
Another fun way to productively engage kids is to register them for foreign language classes such as French, Spanish and Portuguese. Some other languages such as Hausa and Yoruba can also learned when they’re taught by specialists. You can hook your kids up for dance classes as well such as Ballet and contemporary African dances.

Dance Classes
Dance is good for both health and emotional health of kids and a few places in Abuja offer dance class lessons for kids within the city such as Krump Studios in Jabi, French Cultural Center and popular contemporary African dance Artist Omoh whose twitter handle is @Kara2dance.

Take them to see a movie
There are several options here. For instance to see paid movies two great locations within Abuja include Ceddi Plaza in Central Area and Silverbird Entertainment Center. But on Fridays at 7 PM you could see a free French-English sub-titled movie at the French Cultural Center in Wuse 2 on 52 Libreville Street.

Local trip to a games Reserve
There are a couple of natural wonders to behold in Nigeria such as the Yankari Games Reserve in Bauchi State or the Obudu Cattle Ranch in Cross River where wildlife can be viewed in their natural splendor. The experience is Educative and refreshing, the kids would love you for it but even here in Abuja there’s a National Children’s park and Zoo.

Introducing the Cost Saving Zero PC Terminal

Why spend more money to own and operate multiple PCs when you can pay much less and still get high value with just one host PC?

With the Zero PC Terminal this is very achievable. Your organization can still enjoy the benefits of running multiple PC terminals with just a single host computer at the center and several client points (keyboard and Monitor) from which other users can access the central PC.

This is very cost effective because you will still achieve the same results as using a complete system (CPU, Monitor and Keyboard) but at much lower costs. Money saved from this can then be put into other productive areas of your establishment.

What is the Zero PC Terminal?

It’s an innovative enterprise solution that enables organizations using several computers for their operations to save costs in acquiring and maintaining multiple computers.

Business Enterprises such as Libraries, Schools, banks, Government agencies etc could utilize Computer resources such as installed programs or even hardware devices like printers but with only one computer available to several users who can operate from different offices using only a central host PC.

What a Zero PC Terminal Looks Like

Up: Router
Below: Client Units with Keyboards and Monitors

What we Recommend for your Host PC

CPU/RAM Requirements for Host PC              Units of Terminal

3.0 Power Costs
You save valuable electricity units as well as for each client unit the only power consuming unit is the monitor which uses roughly the same amount of electricity as portable mobile devices unlike the CPU which uses far more units than the monitor.

Buy The Armstrong Tyre Sealer and Inflator in Abuja – You don’t need a Vulcanizer anymore

Imagine you’re driving your car and suddenly you realize you have a punctured tyre. Naturally you’d want to stop and change the tyre with the spare or alternatively you may want to visit a vulcanizer to help you patch or re-inflate the tyres. Well this is a tiresome process and those who have been through this especially late in the evenings, on public holidays or even Sundays know that Vulcanizers aren’t always available everywhere you go.

The fear of being stranded or trapped in the middle of nowhere when you stop your car due to a punctured tyre cannot be over emphasized. People have been robbed before that way especially in secluded areas at night.

But to the rescue comes an innovative product that saves you a lot of stress and puts you back on the road in no time at all – the very effective Armstrong tyre sealer and inflator.

What it can do for your Car Tyres
You can use the Armstrong tyre sealer to do the following;

Completely and permanently seal off punctures in your tyres
If a nail or other sharp object leaves a gaping hole that deflates your tyre, just plug and pump and your puncture disappears permanently.

Maintain Tyre Pressure
It can be used to ensure your tyre’s pressure is maintained. If you happen to have the valve tool for measuring your tyre’s pressure once it falls below the recommended level, just bring out the Armstrong and you’re good to go.

Prevents Air loss
Sometimes our tyres lose pressure due to air loss at the rim and bead. Luckily that will be a thing of the past with the Armstrong.

How to use it
  • Turn the valve upward and deflate the tyre
  • Shake the can of compressed gas well and screw the nozzle to the tyre valve
  • Place the can upside down and press the nozzle to re-inflate the tyre
  • Close the Valve and move a few meters. This movement ensures that the puncture is sealed off permanently and you’re good to go.
  • Whether it’s as preventive measure or corrective measure the Armstrong ensures that you continue driving without interruption as the punctures in your tyre are put off instantly and permanently.
To place orders for the Armstrong tyre sealer here in Abuja simply place a call to: 08033987076 or 08170505730

Buy Suits, Shoes, Corporate and office Wares online in Nigeria

Ever wanted to buy very affordable suits, shoes, shirts or skirts for office use through online malls here in Nigeria? That would seem like a thing worth pursuing because buying these merchandise online has a lot of benefits just like they have challenges as well. We’ll review them to you to enable you find the ones you like at affordable prices as well.

But first let’s consider the benefits and challenges of shopping online in Nigeria so that if you’ve never had any such experience you may avoid regrets or smile as the case may be.

Benefits of Shopping Online in Nigeria

Shopping online in Nigeria can be a rewarding experience and here are some reasons why;

It’s Less Expensive
While a typical shop would stock wares and add the cost of renting the shop and paying staff who work there, an online shop really doesn’t have plenty of rent costs to factor in. This is because they can often stock their inventory from obscure locations with low rent costs and only add delivery costs to your purchased items thus making them slightly cheaper than buying from regular boutiques in town.

Buy great brands at discounts
Many Nigerian Online stores can also offer you great discounts of popular brands for various items because many of them can order for large quantities to resell unlike the local boutiques and as a result you can save yourself some money for premium quality brands

Saves time
You save time and stress going to the market and moving shop to shop for a particular item when all you have to do is log into your customer account in one of these stores and make purchase of whatever thing you want.

Problems of Shopping Online in Nigeria

But it’s not all rosy however, shopping online in Nigeria does have its problems too such as;

Poor Customer Service
Many online shops in Nigeria have problems with handling customer complaints or attending to customers’ needs. Some won’t take your calls for days and those that do will promise to resolve your issue as soon as possible but may not until you either threaten something drastic or just let go and move on.

Return Policy
While some shops would offer a 48 hour return back policy the reality on ground is that you may either have to wait for weeks before your money is returned back as customer service is still poor with many of them.

Trust issues
This can be grouped into two cases. One is whether what you ordered for is what will be delivered eventually or that items purchased may be defective. In the past buyers have had to refuse paying for this goods or demanding a refund.

But in spite of all these challenges many people still shop online in Nigeria with relative success and even now that you have the option of only paying on delivery many of the problems listed above can be avoided.

List of Nigerian Online Shops to buy Suits and Office Wares
Before purchasing any item from any of these it pays to read their terms and conditions so that you may not find yourself in a situation you may not like. Also read reviews about them from online forums to get insights into whether patronizing them is or isn’t a good idea.

Buy and Sell your products online in Abuja

In Abuja it's becoming increasingly popular for people to go online these days to post goods and services for sale to a target audience. This may be due to increasing popularity of internet enabled devices which has become common place with almost every one owning a blackberry, ipad or smart phone by which they can access information. Another reason also is how cost effective the internet is becoming as an advertising medium for small businesses in Abuja.

This article is for you if you wish to sell goods online as we’ll share a few tips with you on how to achieve results in your online business here in Abuja.

Note these 3 things if you want more sales for your business
First thing to know is that in order to sell you need to advertise as nobody buys when there aren’t even aware your business or products exists.

Second point to note is that advertising is an investment and not just a cost. The aim of adverts is to drive more sales to your business and consequently more profit that’s obviously an investment.

Third point what kind of advert is good for your business? Are you investing in driving more sales to your business or paying money on a hit and miss advert that doesn’t yield results?

The best kind of adverts to drive sales for your Abuja Business
Let’s simply this for you shall we? A good advert should have the following characteristics;
·         It is highly targeted – reaches the kind of people who will likely buy what you’re selling and not just anybody.

·         It is cost effective – doesn’t cost too much money but achieves relatively sufficient amount of enquiries and even sales.

·         You can monitor and measure results. If you don’t know what kind of message and how many people saw it and responded well to it you may not know for sure if the advert is worth it.
·         Adverts should last. The longer your advert runs the more people will get to see it.

All these characteristics can be found when you advertise on this blog and all these criteria are met with this blog. If you are serious about getting more leads either for enquiries or sales then contact us for details on how we can help Abuja people find you online – 0818 083 1826

Top 5 Chinese Restaurants in Abuja

Looking for Chinese restaurants in Abuja that offer authentic, quality Chinese Cuisine? Here is our list of some in Abuja:

Woks and koi
They’re one of Abuja’s leading Chinese restaurants for the very best Chinese cuisine. They have Chinese chefs who make your meals but their waiters could do a little better with their service. For the price they charge for the meals we’d say they’re indeed worth patronizing.
Location: Silverbird Entertainment Center, Central Area

The Hut Catering
Although this is not exclusively a Chinese restaurant as you’re also served Thai and some regular continental and Nigerian dishes such as fried rice, goat meat stew with beans to name a few. It however boasts of a formidable Chinese menu as well as Italian cuisine.
Location: Aminu Kano Crescent Maitama

Marcopolo Oriental Restaurant
They’re quite expensive and seem to care less about it. Their meals though are really good and service is good. The restaurant area is very spacious making it suitable for group lunches. Marcopolo chose red with touches of white, cream and bright yellow for its ambiance which we like but not too pleased with.  Their meals start from N4000 a plate.
Location: 911 Mall, Usuma Street, Maitama

Sinoni Restaurant
Sinoni Chinese Restaurant offers first class Authentic Chinese Cuisine by Chinese Chefs in an authentic Chinese setting. They have several private dining rooms for business or family lunches & dinners and a banquet hall that can seat up to 100 people.  They however have trouble keeping up with orders as the place is a beehive of activities.
Location: Zeto Court, Oshogbo Close, Garki Area 11

It’s a very expensive Chinese restaurant in Abuja and by reviews from many customers is overhyped offering little value for money.
Location: Mississippi Street, Maitama

Other Asian Restaurants in Abuja

Here are a few more Asian restaurants added to this list to broaden your search for authentic Asian Cuisine in Abuja.

Grills in and Out
For Mongolian cuisine in Abuja it should be Grills in and Out. The ambiance is excellent and service delivery is efficient. Their meals are also moderately priced.
Location: Food City, off Bangui Street, Wuse 2

Juice Place 2
Although not wholly into Chinese Cuisine you can however enjoy well made Chinese meals at this upscale health friendly restaurant and juice Bar. Their prices are moderate and service is excellent.
Location: 25b, Libreville Street, Wuse 2

Private Home Lessons for Kids in Abuja

How Chess Makes Kids Smarter, Brighter and Nicer
Hi, I’m Chess Master Paul Onwueme and I’m glad to share with you a few things about chess in Schools and how kids could benefit from it.

The game of chess is one of the oldest (over 1500 years old) and it’s the most popular indoor board game in the world dubbed “game of kings” and for good reasons too. In ancient times people who played chess belonged to an elite group; educated, wealthy or connected with both. In our time people who play chess exceptionally also belong to an elite group people with above average intelligence.

The game is played by 2 people on a board comprising 64 alternating colours of black and white squares, the winner is the one who can force mate – by ‘capturing’ the enemy king with no possibility of defense from his subjects, when this happens we have checkmate.

Why Chess is such a great game?

Many great minds owe their creativity and analytical skills to early learning of chess in schools such as former world chess champion and Popular Russian politician Garry Kasparov and Dutch Billionaire Joop Van Oosterom

With curriculum based learning chess has been proven to affect kids in the following ways;

Ø  Making Kids Smarter: because it enables them to think creatively and critically kids who learn to play chess at an early age develop higher I.Qs than those who don’t
Ø  Makes kids remember things more – the mind memorizes ideas better in terms of images, shapes and dimensions and chess is a good way to improve this attribute in kids
Ø  Helps kids make better decisions:  by exposing them to strategy and planning, kids can learn to anticipate future possibilities on every action/move they make and decide if it’s the right one or not.
Ø  Chess helps teach kids how to focus and be patient. Since kids learn to concentrate and evaluate positions on the chess board, they’ll pick up good habits; focus and patience.
Registering kids for chess is a very instructive and fun way to boost their intellectual development. It’s not just a fun game, it’s a game that enhances learning in a fun way.

About Me

Playing Experience

I started playing chess professionally in 2007 when I joined the Yabatech Chess Club as a student player. Having played in many local chess tournaments including NBL national chess championships, Ultimate Masters Tournament and friends of chess I have professional experience playing chess with some of Nigeria’s strongest players at the national level.

Teaching Experience(2009 till date)

While in Lagos I taught chess in the following prestigious schools as the lead Chess instructor of Candy Kids Chess Academy - owned by National Chess Master Charles Campbell; Meadow hall Schools, Children’s International School, Delightsome British Home School, Pine Field Schools, (all in Lekki) Childville Schools (yaba) and Greenwood House Schools (Parkview, Ikoyi).
